Meet ElevateRARE

Dr Sarah Bohrer

Founder/Executive Director

Dr. Bohrer is a board-certified pediatrician, patient, and caregiver whose work is shaped by her own family’s experience with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). When her oldest daughter became severely ill at 13, she witnessed the impact of misdiagnosis, disbelief, and inappropriate psychiatric hospitalization—until one knowledgeable provider finally recognized the underlying medical condition. When her second daughter became sick at 12, having the right team in place transformed the experience. These moments inspired her mission to help other families receive accurate diagnoses and compassionate, evidence-based care.

Dr. Bohrer trained at SUNY Buffalo and completed her pediatric residency at North Shore University Hospital. She has worked in diverse settings including rural medicine, the Native American Health Center, Bermuda, urgent care, and community health. Her EDS expertise includes working with Dr. Anne Maitland caring for complex Mast Cell Activation patients and providing telehealth care for EDS, POTS, and MCAS through the EDS Clinic. She has completed multiple EDS Project ECHO cycles and extensive continuing medical education in EDS, dysautonomia, mast cell disorders, ME/CFS, and Long Covid. Today, she runs her own practice focused on giving complex patients the time and support they deserve and collaborates with nonprofits that protect and empower medically vulnerable families.
